زمانی را در فدورا به یاد دارم که دیدن یک کاربر فارسی زبان و ایرانی در گروه های مختلف از جمله ترجمه فدورا یک امر غیر عادی بود. وقتی در حدود فدورا هشت سال ۱۳۸۶ به تیم های گوناگون فدورا از جمله ترجمه پیوستم تیم فارسی جزء تیم های بی سرپرست در سیستم قدیمی ترجمه فدورا محسوب می شد. از اینکه زبان فارسی در این نسخه مهم لینوکس مهجور مانده بود بسیار ناراحت بودم. بعد از مدت ها کم کم افرادی را یافتم که به این تیم کمک کنند . مدتی گذشت و من از جریان اخبار فارسی فدورا به دور بودم و فقط امور کلی و سایر پروژه های فدورا را دنبال کردم. وقتی پس از مدت ها دیدم آقای مجدزاده این مسئولیت را پذیرفته اند بسیار خوشحال شدم هر چند قبل از پذیرش این مسئولیت بنده از طریق مسئولین تیم اصلی ترجمه خبردار شدم فدورا فارسی نیز سرپرستی یافته است
تیم مدتی با سرپرستی جدید کارهایی انجام داد. شاید سرپرست جدید به خاطر مشغله های دیگر به این تیم کمتر رسیدگی می کرد. یکی از مهم ترین تصمیماتی که در آن زمان تیم راهبردی ترجمه فدورا گرفته بود واگذاری بخشی از مسئولیت خود به هماهنگ کنندگان فدورا بود. به عبارت دیگر هر سرپرست به حامی اعضای جدید مبدل می شد و می توانست عضویت افراد جدید را تایید کند. متاسفانه در تیم فارسی مدت ها می گذشت افراد زیادی می آمدند و چون سرپرست قبلی ارتقاء درجه در سیستم حساب فدورایی نیافته بود نمی توانست عضویت افراد جدید را تایید کند. برخی از این افراد به من مراجعه می کردند و من به خاطر تیم فارسی عضویت آنها را تایید می کرد.
خوب اکثرا در جریان سایر امور از جمله جابه جایی سمت سرپرستی به آقای سعیدی بودید. چون در اینجا بحث شده است لذا نیاز به توضیح در این باره نمی بینم
در این مدت سعی کردم با هماهنگی با جناب سعیدی جلساتی را درباره تیم ترجمه در کانال آی‌ار‌سی فدورا ایران برگذار کنیم. خوشبختانه دو جلسه بسیار مهم را توانستیم در این مدت با موفقیت برگذار کنیم که در طی آن جلسات علاوه بر کمک به جذب افراد جدید امور جاری تیم ترجمه نیز مورد بحث و بررسی قرار گرفت
اکنون تیم فارسی تقریبا جایگاه خوبی در میان فدورا دارد. حال که به زودی فدورا ۱۴ را خواهیم داشت بیش از ۳۰ بسته برای فدورا ۱۴ برچسب خورده اند که همه به طور کامل به فارسی ترجمه شده اند. برخی بسته های دیگر نیز وجود دارد که کاملا ترجمه نشده اند. در زمینه ی وب سایت های اکنون ما جزو بالاترین زبان های ترجمه شده در همه وب سایت های فدورا هستیم. تقریبا می شود گفت اکثر سایت های اصلی فدورا به فارسی ترجمه شده اند و با کمک دوستانم در تیم وب سایت های فدورا توانستیم نواقصی که در ساختار و راست – چپ بودن این سایت ها را حل کنیم. اکنون وقتی کاربری با زبان پیش فرض فارسی در سیستم یا موزیلا یا هر مرورگر دیگر به صورت خودکار به صفحات فارسی سایت ها برده می شوند
امسال خوشبختانه با کمک دوستان توانستیم بعد از سال های بار دیگر بخش های اصلی فدورا را به فارسی برگردانیم. در حال حاضر همه بسته های اصلی که در ترجمه فدورا و پروژه ی بین المللی سازی فدورا نقش مهمی ایفاء می کنند به طور ۱۰۰ درصد به فارسی ترجمه شده اند. این اولین بار است که بعد از مشارکت های فارسی وب در سال ۲۰۰۶ زبان فارسی چنین جایگاهی در میان تیم ترجمه فدورا پیدا کرده است. حال کاربر به راحتی با برنامه نصاب آناکوندا با انتخاب زبان فارسی نصب فدورا را به زبان فارسی دنبال کند و از نکته های گفته شده به زبان فارسی در حین نصب استفاده کند
بسیار خوشحالم که در ترجمه این بسته ها به خصوص آناکوندا نقش داشته ام. همیشه خود را مدیون ردهت و فدورا می دانستم حال گمان می کنم دینی را که برای این گنو/لینوکس در کشورم داشته ام تا حدودی ادا کرده ام. هرچند بسیار تلاش های دیگر برای فدورا ایران و زبان فارسی آن انجام دادم که متاسفانه به دلایل مختلف متوقف ماند. دلایلی که بالاتر از توانایی و قدرت هر دو طرف یعنی ردهت و من بود
حال دیگر فدورای فارسی راه خود را یافته است. مقدمات ادامه کار برای همه کاربران فراهم شده است. آخرین هدفم در ترجمه فدورا آغاز پروژه تولید مستندات فدورا به فارسی بود. اکنون خوشبختانه سایت مستندات به فارسی آماده شده است و دو سند آزمایشی برای فدورا نیز تهیه کردم. مهمترین آنها راهنمای ترجمه در فدورا است. کاربران با مراجعه به آن به راحتی می توانند مراحل پیوستن به تیم ترجمه را دنبال کنند
حال من در تیم مستندات فدورا مجوز تولید و انتشار مستندات را دارم. امیدوارم اگر زمانی کاربران فارسی فدورا و تیم ترجمه ی بخوانند یکی از اسناد و راهنمایی های فدورا را ترجمه کنند بعد از اتمام کار ترجمه ی آنها را به صورت سند در سایت قرار بدهم
حال تصمیم گرفته ام از تیم فدورای فارسی به کنار باشم و از دور جریانات این تیم را دنبال کنم. برای ادامه کارهای ترجمه در سایر پروژه بالا دست همانند می‌گو یا دسکتاپ لکسدی ادامه خواهم داد و از این طریق پروژه فدورا نیز می تواند این ترجمه نیز استفاده کند

Domani, 7 Settembre, si svolgerà un Test Day un po' speciale, quello per systemd. Speciale in primo luogo perchè si svolge di martedì invece dell'usuale giovedì, e perchè lo spostamento è determinato dall'importanza che questa feature riveste per Fedora 14.

Infatti systemd è una alternativa al sistema di init SysV, tradizionalmente usato da diverse distribuzioni, e Upstart, il progetto di Canonical che lo ha di recente rimpiazzato. Dato il compito delicato che svolge (init è il primo processo che il kernel attiva al boot, e si occupa di far partire tutti i servizi necessari per avere un sistema funzionante) è chiaro che difetti in questo componente possono provocare malfunzionamenti dell'intero sistema.

Per questo motivo si è deciso di anticipare il Test Day a prima della Beta Change Deadline (la data oltre la quale non è più possibile aggiornare i pacchetti che compongono la Beta) ed usare i risultati di questa giornata per decidere se systemd sarà il sistema di init di default per Fedora 14 o sarà necessario rimanere col vecchio sistema.

Al solito, è molto semplice partecipare a questa giornata di test. La pagina sul wiki ha tutte le istruzioni sui quelli da eseguire, e come minimo ci si può limitare a scaricare l'immagine Live più recente e provare ad avviarla sul proprio hardware.

Ovviamente sarà anche molto utile utilizzare il nuovo sistema per configurare i servizi che si attivano di solito (ovviamente in questo caso sarà necessaria una installazione completa) assicurandosi che systemd rimanga in grado di avviare e stoppare il sistema regolarmente.

(Inicialmente leido en el Blog EXT4, pero la fuente real ha sido republicada y traducida por tantos sitios, que decidí actualizarlo un poco y adaptarlo a Fedora. Aqui estan los resultados…)

Un amigo me dijo que tuvo problemas al pasar de Windows a Linux. Como tenía mucho tiempo de no usar Windows, le pedí que me ayudara con Windows, y yo le ayudaría con Linux.

Para comenzar, fuí al sitio de Microsoft para descargar Windows 7, pero no estaba disponible. Me frustré por que navegar en su sitio fue bastante dificil, y solo quería el .ISO para instalarlo. Le marqué a mi amigo, y me dijo que debía comprarlo. Se me hizo raro, por que nunca he comprado una distribución de Linux.

Me subí al carro, y fui hasta el PC En Linea que esta cerca de mi casa, me dirigí a la sección de Software, y encontré Windows 7. ¿$4,200 pesos un Sistema Operativo? Me di la vuelta y me fuí de la tienda.

Le hablé a mi amigo y le dije que no probaría Windows 7 debido a su alto costo, y me dijo que el me daría una copia, pero que no le dijera a nadie. Se me hizo raro, por que yo quemo discos de Fedora todo el tiempo para regalar en eventos sin ningun problema. De cualquier forma, tomé el DVD, lo puse en la maquina y me esperé a que el LiveDVD funcionara. No funcionó, me pidio que si quería instalarlo. Le marqué a mi amigo y me dijo que no era un LiveDVD, que era solo para instalarlo.

Procedí a instalar Windows 7, pero me puse nervioso por que no me preguntó si tenía otros sistemas operativos instalados. Cuando instalo Fedora me pregunta si deseo particionar mi disco duro y marcar particiones como booteables y demás, pero al parecer este quería eliminar mis particiones de Linux. Regresé a Fedora para respaldar mi /home y mis bases de datos, y procedí en la instalación de Windows 7.

La instalación fue sencilla, pero llegué a un punto donde me pidió un número de serie, que era una combinación de letras y números. Le marqué al que me dió el DVD, que ya estaba bastante molesto de estarle marcando por telefono, y me dió su número de serie, pero me dijo que no se lo dijera a nadie más.

Una vez que quedó instalada la máquina, me sorprendió que me dejara cambiar configuración del sistema sin pedirme ninguna contraseña. Busqué en Internet, y al parecer es que Windows 7 te da acceso ‘root’ desde el inicio, y seguí un tutorial de como crear otro usuario, sin root, para iniciar sesión de manera segura.

Entonces, cuando quería cambiar algo, me pedía salirme del usuario, entrar con el otro usuario de administrador (Que asi le dicen a root en Windows, al parecer). Con esto, me di cuenta que muchas personas iniciaban sesión como administrador, y me puse nervioso.

Una vez configurado el equipo, me puse a trabajara. Abrí el menú de inicio, y fuí a programas por que quería abrir una hoja de calculos, pero no encontré ningún programa que lo hiciera. Le marqué a mi amigo nuevamente, y me dijo que Windows no incluye ninguna aplicación de ese tipo por default y que tenía que bajarla de Internet.

Pensé que me había dado una copia del Windows Ultimate, que debía incluir todo, pero ni siquiera un paquete de ofimatica traía! Entonces me dirigí al panel de control, y a añadir/remover programas, como en Fedora. Pero aqui no había manera de añadir, solo de remover.

Busqué un poco pero no encontré ninguna opción que me permitiera instalar aplicaciones, ni configurar repositorios ni nada!

Bueno, como yo siempre he usado OpenOffice, me dirigí a OpenOffice.org para descargar Calc, Writer y demás apps.

Por si fuera poco, el Windows 7 no me detectó mi chip de Bluetooth, ni el de Wifi. Puedo vivir sin Bluetooth, pero se me hizo raro, por que en todas las distros de Linux que he probado, nunca he tenido problemas con el Bluetooth ni para el Wifi. Solo conecto los dispositivos y funcionan.

En Windows 7, al parecer debía ir al sitio del fabricante y descargar los controladores adecuados segun el modelo de dispositivo. Después de descargar un par de archivos de ~60mb cada uno, salí de mi usuario, inicié sesión como administrador, los instalé y reinicié el equipo y finalmente funcionaron.

A fin de cuentas, logré crear mi hoja de calculos, pero toda esta experiencia no fue nada divertida.

¿Por que tengo un disco A, un disco C y un disco D?, ¿donde quedó el B?

No encontré muchas aplicaciones que incrementaran mi productividad, y tuve que pasar mucho tiempo en Google buscando aplicaciones, en lugar de incluirlas en añadir/remover programas como en Linux. Por si fuera poco, me recomendaron instalar un antivirus que por cierto… ¡Son Carisimos!

Encontré esto del Windows muy dificil de usar. Quiza pueda ser para expertos de la computación, pero definitivamente no es para mi. Me regreso a Fedora.

A friend told me he had problems migrating from Windows to Linux. As I haven’t used Windows in a long time, I asked him to help me with Windows, and I would help with Linux.

To begin the weekend, I went to Microsoft’s website to download Windows 7, but was it not available.

I got frustrated navigating their site, which was quite difficult, and I just wanted to get the ISO to try it out.

I called my friend, and he told me I had to buy it. I found it strange, as I’ve never bought a Linux distribution.

I got in the car, and went to the PC Online which is near my house, I went to the Software section, and found Windows 7. $ 4,200 MXN for an operating system? I turned around and got out the store.

I called to my friend and told him I couldn’t try Windows 7 due to its high cost, and he said he’d give me a copy, but that I couldn’t tell anyone about that. I thought it was weird, because I burn Fedora discs to give away all the time at events without any problems or secrecy.

Anyway, I took the DVD, put it in the machine and I waited for the LiveDVD work. It did not work, asked me if I wanted to install it. I called my friend again and he said it was not a LiveDVD, it was just an install disc.

I proceeded with the Windows 7 installation, but I got nervous because it never mentioned that I had other Operative Systems installed.

When I install Fedora, it asks me how to partition my hard drive and which partitions GRUB will mark as booteable. Apparently, Windows 7 would remove my Linux partitions, so I had to quit the setup, got onto Fedora to backup my /home, and my MySQL databases, to proceed with the installation of Windows 7.

The installation was easy, but then I got to a point where it asked for a serial number, which was a combination of letters and numbers.

I called the guy that gave me the DVD, who sounded a bit annoyed at this point, and gave me his serial number, but told me not to share it with anyone. I shrugged and proceeded with the installation.

Once Windows was installed, I was surprised that it let me change system settings without asking any passwords. I Googled it up, and apparently Windows 7 gives you access ‘root’ from the start, and I had to follow a tutorial on how to create another user without root, to use the computer safely.

Then, when I wanted to change a system setting, I had to log out of the user, login with the Administrator user (Which apparently is what Windows calls ‘root’) and then log back out and into my user.

I realized then that its so frustrating, people must probably use their administrator accounts all the time to avoid this annoyance, and wondered about the security implications.

After configuring the computer, I started to work. Opened the Start menu, and went to programs, since I wanted to open a spreadsheet, but there was no program to do it. I called my friend again, and told me that Windows does not include any programs of the sort by default and had to download it. I found it odd, since I had been given a copy of a Windows Ultimate version and this wasn’t included, so I went onto Control Panel, and got into the Add Remove Software program.

I thought, finally something it has in common with Fedora! But then I realized there was no such way to Add Software, just to remove it.

Since there was no way to install software or configure repositories, I proceeded to the OpenOffice.org site, to download Calc, Writer and the rest of the OpenOffice suite.

Once I finished editing my Spreadsheet, I realized Windows didn’t detect any printers. No big deal, I thought, Fedora 13 introduced a Printer Buddy which made configuring printers extremely easy, but before that I had to download some drivers, so I went onto the manufacturer’s website and downloaded a 120MB file that installed a lot of software I doubt I’ll ever use.

Apparently, there’s no way to install the Printer without those programs. I shrugged and proceeded with the reboot to detect the printer. Odd, since I usually just have to restart CUPS, not the whole computer.

Later, I wanted to go downstairs, then I remembered that I had hooked up the laptop to the wired network because Windows didn’t detect the wireless chip. No big deal, I thought. I went onto the manufacturers website, which made me go navigate through an awful-looking website and after a bit, I managed to download the drivers. It again asked me to reboot, so I shrugged and proceeded.

I noticed upon boot that some printer software starting popping up, as well as 2 wireless configuration tools. I closed the windows and wondered if everyone must go through all of this.

At the end of the weekend, I had my spreadsheet, and printed it out. Wireless and bluetooth working after some issues and all.

I do wonder though, why there’s Drive A, Drive C, Drive D but no Drive B. Finding applications was a big hassle, as I had to spend a lot of time on Google, and apparently some of the sites that offer the software are packed with malicious software.

I really missed the Package Manager that came with Fedora by default. All in all, I found out that using Windows is extremely difficult to use. Perhaps it can be useful for hardcore computer experts, but not your Average John.

Windows 7 is definitely not for me. I’m going back to Fedora.
